Namibia and Iran Move to Strengthen Ties in Oil, Agriculture, Health and Skills Training
Namibia and Iran are looking to deepen cooperation in several key areas, including oil and gas, agriculture, healthcare and vocational training, following a meeting between senior officials in Windhoek.
Iranian Ambassador to Namibia, H.E. Mohammad Bagher Beigi, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security.
Discussions focused on strengthening relations between the two countries’ parliaments, with the recently established Namibia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group identified as an important platform for closer engagement and cooperation.
The meeting also followed Dr. Mushelenga’s recent visit to Tehran as part of a Namibian delegation that attended the funeral procession of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. During the visit, the delegation also met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Ambassador Beigi expressed appreciation for Namibia’s solidarity and support during the Iran-US conflict. He reiterated Iran’s position that the conflict should be resolved through peaceful and negotiated means.
The discussions further highlighted the longstanding relationship between Namibia and Iran, including historical ties linked to Namibia’s liberation struggle. Both sides expressed interest in building on these relations through practical cooperation in sectors that could contribute to development in both countries.
