N$22 Million Nkurenkuru Sports Centre Project Moves Into Construction
NKURENKURU — The proposed Phase 1B development of the Nkurenkuru Sports Centre has now moved into the construction stage following the official handover of the site to the project team.
The handover followed a courtesy meeting involving Kavango West Regional Council Chairperson Fillipus Tenga, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, the National Training Authority, as well as engineers and project managers responsible for the construction works.
The Phase 1B project, valued at approximately N$22 million, will focus on upgrading key sporting infrastructure at the facility.
One of the major components is the construction of a 1,000-seat pavilion, which will provide spectator accommodation together with supporting facilities.
The football field will also undergo major works, including compacting and levelling, installation of an irrigation system and the planting of Kikuyu grass.
The project further provides for the installation of area lighting and the erection of perimeter fencing around the football field.
Existing sporting courts will also be enhanced as part of the works. The scope includes improvements to the courts, perimeter fencing around the existing courts, and the installation of spectator seating and bleachers.
The construction programme is expected to take approximately seven months to complete.
The official site handover marks a significant development from the proposal stage previously outlined for Phase 1B, which identified a total estimated project value of N$22.03 million including VAT.
The wider Nkurenkuru Sports Centre development also includes additional facilities earmarked for future phases, meaning the current construction represents only part of the planned development of the sports centre.
