Namibia U20 Suffer 3-0 Defeat to Zambia in COSAFA Bronze Medal Match
Namibia’s Young Brave Warriors finished fourth at the COSAFA U20 Championship after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Zambia in the bronze medal match in Maputo on Saturday.
Zambia secured third place with a strong performance, with Gift Mumbi opening the scoring before Sipho Muntanga added two goals to complete a 3-0 victory for the Chipolopolo.
Namibia had entered the knockout stage after an excellent group campaign, finishing top of Group A with a perfect record of three wins from three matches. The Young Brave Warriors collected nine points, scored five goals and did not concede a single goal during the group stage.
However, their fortunes changed in the knockout rounds.
Namibia were beaten 3-0 by hosts Mozambique in the semi-final before suffering another 3-0 defeat to Zambia in the third-place match.
What Does This Mean for Namibia?
The Young Brave Warriors ended the tournament with a sharp contrast between their group-stage and knockout-stage performances.
Across their three group matches, Namibia scored five goals and conceded none. In their final two matches, however, they failed to score while conceding six goals.
Overall, Namibia finished the tournament with five goals scored and six conceded.
The result means Zambia take home the bronze medal, while Namibia finish fourth. The COSAFA U20 Championship now moves to the final, where South Africa will face hosts Mozambique at 14:00.
