Authorities have launched an investigation following a harrowing incident in which a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped and assaulted while walking home on Friday evening.
According to National Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the attack occurred at approximately 21h00. The victim had reportedly been returning home from nearby bars in Omafo when she was approached by an unidentified man.
“The suspect is said to have chased the victim, caught up with her, physically assaulted her, and then proceeded to sexually assault her,” Shikwambi confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday.
The assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident. No arrests have been made so far, and police are appealing to members of the public who may have information to come forward.
The victim has since received medical treatment, and police have assured that investigations are ongoing.
This case adds to growing concerns over the safety of women in the region, prompting calls for improved security and community vigilance in public areas, especially at night.
