A major scam targeting a woman from Enongo village in the Omusati Region has left her N$472,000 poorer.
According to police reports, the 52-year-old victim fell prey to fraudsters who posed as police officers, allegedly between 16 and 26 June in Oshakati, Ongwediva, and Oshikango. It all started after she went to write her learner’s license test at the Oshakati NaTIS office.
While awaiting her results, she received a phone call offering her a chance to buy a driver’s license. Shortly after, men pretending to be police officers approached her and demanded payments, threatening her with arrest if she failed to comply.
The victim, fearing for her freedom, withdrew large sums of cash and also transferred money into a Bank Windhoek account as instructed.
Currently, no arrests have been made, and none of the money has been recovered. The police are still investigating the case.
