A 27-year-old woman from Windhoek has filed a rape case against former Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, who is currently serving as a Member of Parliament.
The alleged incident reportedly took place on the night of March 21 this year. According to a police report, the complainant stated that upon returning home from a night out, she went to take a shower. While inside the bathroom, she allegedly overheard Shifeta speaking with her cousin. After finishing, she went to her room and later found the suspect on top of her, engaging in sexual intercourse without her consent.
The woman claimed that she resisted his advances and that the act only stopped when she vomited, attributing her weakened state to intoxication.
Khomas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Commissioner Crispen Mubepo, confirmed that the matter has been reported but noted that the investigation is being handled by a higher authority due to the profile of the suspect.
In response to the allegations, Shifeta dismissed them as “malicious and baseless,” suggesting they stem from ongoing personal and legal tensions involving himself, the complainant, and his wife. He also stated that he had only become aware of the matter through social media and had not yet been contacted by police.
As of now, no arrest has been made in connection with the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
