Police in the Kavango West Region have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with the death of four-year-old Martha Hamunyera, who was fatally struck with a spade at Kahoro village on Sunday.
According to Kavango West Namibian Police Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the suspect was apprehended at Namuntuntu village on Monday around 11h00, where he was found hiding under bushes.
Preliminary reports indicate that Hamunyera had been playing with other children inside the suspect’s homestead when he allegedly attempted to chase them away using a spade. In the process, he reportedly struck the child, killing her instantly.
The man fled the scene immediately after the incident but was later traced and taken into custody. He is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court this week to face murder charges.
