The High Court is set to hand down sentencing in the case of convicted serial rapist Gavin Gawanab on 22 September, following arguments from both the prosecution and defence regarding the length of his prison term.
State advocate Palmer Khumalo urged the court to impose a sentence ranging between 45 and 50 years, stressing the gravity of the crimes committed against multiple minor victims. In contrast, defence lawyer Mbanga Siyomunji appealed for a lighter sentence of 30 years, citing mitigating factors.
The case was heard before Judge Dinnah Usiku, who will deliver the final decision next month.
