A tragic scene unfolded at Omanyanga village in the Oshikoto region on Monday afternoon when a 49-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 38-year-old wife to death in front of stunned onlookers.
According to regional police spokesperson and head of the community policing sub-division, Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale-Kangulu, the incident occurred around 14h00 at the village’s cuca shops.
The victim has been identified as Kristofina Hainyanyula, a resident of Omanyanga village. Police reports indicate that the suspect, armed with a kitchen knife, attacked Hainyanyula while she was in the company of her mother. He allegedly stabbed her several times in the chest and back, killing her instantly.
Eyewitnesses told police that the suspect did not say a word before carrying out the fatal attack. Investigations further revealed that the couple had a long history of domestic violence and marital disputes. In fact, they were expected to appear before the traditional authority at Omanyanga village the following day to address their issues.
The suspect, whose name will only be released once he appears in court, was arrested shortly after the incident. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court today.
Police have urged the public to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic disputes and warned against violence in relationships.
