A 49-year-old woman is in critical condition at Oshakati State Hospital after being allegedly shot by her boyfriend, Victor Shaninga, who reportedly took his own life afterwards.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Okagongo Kuladhi village in the Omusati region. Police confirmed that they are investigating the case.
According to a relative who witnessed the events, the victim was being escorted home after closing her cuca shop for the night when Shaninga emerged from the bushes with a firearm. The relative immediately ran for safety and heard two gunshots before the area fell silent.
Upon returning to the scene, the relative found Shaninga deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to the forehead, while the woman had sustained a gunshot wound to her back but was still alive.
The police were alerted, and the injured woman was rushed to Oshakati State Hospital, where she is receiving critical care. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
