CAF EXCO Approves Major Changes to Interclub Competition Regulations
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, chaired by President Dr Patrice Motsepe, has approved a series of changes to the regulations governing CAF Interclub competitions.
The decisions introduce greater flexibility for clubs in managing their squads and players during the continental season, while also changing the way disciplinary matters are handled.
One of the major changes is that players will now be allowed to play for more than one club during the same CAF Interclub season.
This means a player who moves from one participating club to another during the season will be able to continue playing in CAF Interclub competitions for his new club, subject to the applicable registration requirements.
CAF has also increased the squad registration limit, with each club now allowed to register a maximum of 40 players at any point during the season.
In another important change, clubs will be permitted to replace up to four players during the final registration period. However, the players being replaced must not have featured in any CAF Interclub match during the season.
The changes also affect the handling of disciplinary cases.
Going forward, all disciplinary matters will be handled by the CAF Disciplinary Board instead of the Interclub Committee.
The amendments were approved by the CAF EXCO as part of changes to the Interclub Competition regulations.
The new framework is expected to give participating clubs more flexibility in managing player registrations and squad changes throughout the CAF Interclub season.
