Egypt has commissioned The Octagon, a massive new military headquarters in the country’s New Administrative Capital, officially making it the world’s largest defense command complex, larger than the U.S. Pentagon.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi inaugurated the sprawling 22,000-acre facility on 4 July 2026. The complex will function as the central command and control hub for every branch of the Egyptian Armed Forces, bringing military operations under one integrated headquarters.

The Octagon’s distinctive eight-sided design draws inspiration from both ancient Egyptian civilization and Islamic architectural traditions. It includes 13 specialized operational sectors equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology and sophisticated cyber-defense capabilities to enhance real-time decision-making, coordination, and emergency response.

The launch of the landmark facility reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernize its armed forces, strengthen national defense capabilities, and reinforce its standing as one of Africa’s most influential military powers.
