Utokero Athletics Club shines at Karibib Open Championships
Kavango West’s Utokero Athletics Club continued its impressive run on the national athletics scene after producing a strong medal haul at the Karibib Open Athletics Championships in the Erongo Region.
The club travelled to Karibib on Friday with a group of athletes, who delivered outstanding performances across several middle- and long-distance events.
Reino Haupindi emerged as one of the standout performers of the championships, securing two gold medals in the 1,500m and 800m events.
The club’s other medal-winning performances included:
🥇 Maria Kanyanga — Gold in the 3,000m and 800m.
🥇 Hilde Jairus — Gold in the 1,500m and Silver in the 800m.
🏅 Johannes Petrus — Medals in the 800m and 5,000m events.
🥈 Lothard Haikera — Silver in the 800m.
Overall, Utokero Athletics Club collected nine medals, comprising five gold and four silver, underlining the growing strength of athletics talent from Kavango West.
The performances provide another positive indication of the region’s potential to compete strongly at national level and place its athletes among Namibia’s emerging athletics talents.
