Women entrepreneurs in Namibia are set to benefit from a new financing programme introduced by the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) aimed at improving access to funding for female-owned enterprises across the country.

The initiative, known as DBN For Her, was officially introduced in Windhoek and is backed by N$400 million in funding from the African Development Bank. The programme is designed to assist businesses that are fully owned by women, with financial support intended for start-ups, expansion projects, and the growth of existing enterprises.

Speaking at the launch, Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah said the programme seeks to remove long-standing obstacles that prevent many women from accessing financial resources, adding that empowering women in business is essential for strengthening economic participation and national development.

The financing facility will be available to companies employing between five and 300 workers in various sectors of the economy. Eligible businesses may apply for loans starting from N$150,000 up to N$10 million, offered at prime lending rates. The package also includes a grace period of up to 12 months, while collateral requirements may be covered through credit guarantees, credit life cover, or project-based assets.
