FNB Namibia has moved to clarify the operating rules governing its CashPlus service after reports emerged of some agents allegedly placing extra conditions on customers during transactions.

The bank stressed that CashPlus agents are strictly prohibited from charging additional fees or forcing customers to buy goods or services in order to process cash withdrawals or deposits. According to FNB Namibia, agents within the CashPlus network are already remunerated through commissions paid directly by the bank for every qualifying transaction completed.

FNB Namibia Transact Pillar Head Rivan Meyer said the CashPlus model was created to improve access to banking services while supporting small business operators across the country.

“CashPlus was introduced to make everyday banking more accessible, affordable and dignified for all Namibians, while also empowering local entrepreneurs, particularly in communities with limited access to traditional banking services. When the solution is used as intended, it benefits both customers and agents and strengthens trust within the communities we serve,” Meyer said.

The bank emphasised that CashPlus agents serve as a critical link between formal banking services and local communities, and are expected to operate in a transparent and fair manner. This includes processing transactions without imposing any additional charges or conditions on customers.

FNB Namibia further noted that it is actively engaging its CashPlus agents to reinforce understanding of the CashPlus Agreement and the objectives of the programme. The engagement includes providing guidance and support to ensure agents fully comply with the agreed standards.

Agents have also been urged to familiarise themselves with the terms and spirit of the agreement to help maintain fair, reliable and accessible banking services nationwide.

Customers who experience challenges or require clarification regarding CashPlus transactions are encouraged to contact FNB Namibia’s customer service channels for assistance.
