Nigeria Social Media Influencer BlessingCEO Accused of Scamming Millions After Cancer Claim

Nigerian businesswoman and online personality Blessing Okoro, popularly known as BlessingCEO, is facing growing backlash after appealing for financial assistance on social media while claiming she had been diagnosed with cancer.
In widely circulated videos, BlessingCEO appeared visibly distressed and emotional, with her hair already shaved an appearance that led many to believe she was undergoing or preparing for cancer treatment. In the same videos, she directly appealed to her followers for financial support, stating that the funds would be used for chemotherapy. She was also seen selling personal belongings, including clothing and other items, which she presented as part of efforts to raise money for her treatment.
The posts triggered strong emotional reactions across Nigeria, with many followers expressing sympathy and some reportedly making donations.
However, the situation took a different turn days later when media outlets sought clarification. During an interview, she described the situation as a “miscommunication,” stating that she was not certain she had cancer. She has also denied undergoing chemotherapy, contradicting what she say in her videos.
Further intensifying the controversy are statements attributed to the influencer in which she allegedly said donations were voluntary and saying that anyone “crying” over their money should “cry blood.”
When questioned about reports alleging she received up to 100 million naira, she reportedly laughed and did not confirm the amount.
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with bloggers and commentators urging the public to exercise caution when responding to emotional appeals online. The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about accountability and transparency among influencers, particularly when sensitive health-related claims are used to solicit financial support.
