Yamal Could Become First Player To Win Two Ballon d’Or Awards In One Night

Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí could make history at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony after both Barcelona youngsters were nominated for two major awards.
The Ballon d’Or organisers have confirmed that there is no rule preventing a player from winning multiple trophies at the same ceremony. Since the voting for each category is conducted separately, a player can potentially win both the men’s Ballon d’Or and the Young Talent of the Year award.
Yamal and Cubarsí are the only two male players nominated in both categories this year.
Yamal, 19, enters the ceremony with an impressive record. The Barcelona winger has already won the Young Talent award twice and is now chasing a third consecutive triumph. He was also part of Spain’s 2026 World Cup-winning squad and is among the nominees for the main Ballon d’Or prize.
Cubarsí, meanwhile, has also enjoyed a remarkable year. The 19-year-old Barcelona centre-back helped Spain win the 2026 World Cup and was recognised as the tournament’s best young player. He is also nominated for both the main Ballon d’Or and Young Talent of the Year awards.
A double victory by either player would be historic, as no footballer has previously won two awards at the same Ballon d’Or ceremony.
The 2026 ceremony is scheduled for 26 October in London, where the football world will discover whether Yamal or Cubarsí can become the first player to achieve the feat.
