Officially: Ronnie Kanalelo Appointed as Marumo Gallants Head Coach
Namibian coach Ronnie Kanalelo has officially been appointed as the new head coach of South African side Marumo Gallants, marking his return to the South African top flight.
Marumo Gallants confirmed the appointment on Monday, 14 September 2026, announcing that Kanalelo will take charge for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
The 55-year-old coach joins the South African club after recently guiding Namibian champions African Stars to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. Stars eliminated Gabonese side Mangasport on the away-goals rule after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.
Kanalelo has extensive experience in both Namibian and South African football. He has previously worked with clubs including UNAM FC, Black Africa, Bucks Buccaneers, African Stars, Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
His coaching career also includes work with the Namibia national team technical staff, where he was involved in major international tournaments, including the 2008, 2019 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.
Before moving into coaching, Kanalelo enjoyed a successful playing career as a goalkeeper at Mamelodi Sundowns. During his time with the club, he won three league titles and several domestic trophies.
He also represented Namibia at international level, earning 53 caps and featuring at the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kanalelo holds a CAF A Licence and is expected to bring his experience and emphasis on discipline, tactical organisation and player development to Gallants.
His first major assignment will come against Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership, giving the Namibian coach an immediate challenge against one of South Africa’s leading clubs.
