Murder Suspect Denied Bail in Katima Mulilo

The Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday denied bail to Sydney Steven Naruseb, who is accused of stabbing his wife, Rachel Simasiku, to death at Choto informal settlement on Sunday. The case has been postponed to 22 April 2026 for further investigation.
Naruseb, who allegedly fled the scene after the incident, later handed himself over to the police on Tuesday.
Outside the court, community members gathered to submit a petition opposing bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and concerns for public safety. The family of the deceased also joined the demonstration.
The family told the media that they had contacted the police while the attack was taking place but were informed that no transport was available, despite a nearby police substation.
