Rundu Misses Out as Mukungu’s WBO Africa Title Defence Moves to Windhoek

Martin “Aligator” Mukungu will have to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa Junior Lightweight title in Windhoek instead of his hometown Rundu after organisers announced a venue change for the boxing event scheduled for 21 November 2026.
The MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy confirmed that the highly anticipated event has been moved from Rundu to Mövenpick Hotel in Windhoek because of an unavoidable double-booking at the original venue.
Mukungu had been expected to defend his title in Rundu, where he comes from, giving him an opportunity to compete in front of his hometown supporters.
The Namibian boxer earned the WBO Africa Junior Lightweight crown after defeating Namibian boxer, Flame Nangolo “Special One” in just one minute and 35 seconds, establishing himself as the champion ahead of his next title defence.
He is now set to face South African opponent, Siphosethu Mvula, in one of the evening’s co-main bouts as he looks to retain his championship.
The event will feature several other notable Namibian boxers competing for international titles.
- Fillipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa vs Ayabonga Sonjica – WBO Global Super Bantamweight Title.
- Martin “Aligator” Mukungu vs Siphosethu Mvula – WBO Africa Junior Lightweight Title.
- Mateus “The Beast” Heita vs Ismael Kadri – WBO Africa Featherweight Title.
- Harry Simon Jnr vs Habib Kehinde Giwa – WBO/IBF Africa Welterweight Title.
The event is scheduled to begin at 18:00 on 21 November 2026 at Mövenpick Hotel in Windhoek.
In announcing the change, the academy apologised to supporters for any inconvenience caused and thanked them for their continued understanding.
Although the move means Mukungu will not defend his title in his hometown as initially planned, attention will now turn to whether he can successfully retain his championship against Mvula in the capital.
