A 17-year-old girl was arrested on Saturday after allegedly stabbing and killing her 23-year-old boyfriend during a domestic dispute at the Saamstan location in Okahandja.
According to Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the incident happened on Saturday afternoon following an argument between the couple.
It is alleged that the deceased, identified as Pernadino Cloete, had earlier gone to the bank to withdraw money. Upon returning home, his girlfriend confronted him, demanding money for groceries.
“An argument erupted between the two after the deceased, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, started insulting and assaulting his girlfriend. During the altercation, the girl allegedly took a knife and stabbed him once in the left side of the chest before fleeing the scene,” said Mbeha.
Cloete was later found lying on the ground and was rushed to an Okahandja hospital by his sister in a taxi, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The teenage suspect later surrendered herself to the police and was arrested. She is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
