Psychiatric Patient Arrested After Stabbing Guard During Escape at Oshakati Hospital

A patient receiving treatment at the psychiatric unit of Oshakati State Hospital was arrested on Monday afternoon after escaping from Ward 16.
According to information gathered at the scene, the patient managed to flee the facility despite the presence of security personnel assigned to safeguard the hospital. During the escape attempt, the individual allegedly attacked and injured a security officer who tried to stop him from leaving the ward.
Members of the Security Personnel Services, working alongside police reservists deployed at the hospital, immediately responded to the incident. Two security officers pursued the suspect on foot and managed to capture him a short distance away.
The patient was taken back into custody following his arrest. Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, the NamPol Acting Regional Commander for Oshana, confirmed the incident.
