Police in Ongwediva have arrested a local resident after he allegedly advertised a firearm for sale on social media, leading to the discovery of an illegally imported and unlicensed gun.

The suspect, who lives in the Hanover residential area, was apprehended on Thursday shortly after returning from South Africa. Law enforcement officers became aware of the online post and traced the individual behind the advertisement.

Upon confronting him, officers found a pistol in his possession. Investigations revealed that the firearm was not licensed and had been unlawfully brought into Namibia from South Africa.

Police further stated that although the man entered the country through an official border post, he failed to declare the firearm upon arrival, which is a violation of immigration and firearms regulations. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
