The City of Windhoek has restored electricity to the home of Petrus Eiseb, a resident who relies on an oxygen machine, after reaching a payment agreement regarding his outstanding municipal debt.
Eiseb had been without power after the city disconnected his electricity due to an unpaid balance of N$4,300. The disconnection sparked plans for a protest against the City of Windhoek’s decision, as concerns grew over his health and well-being.
City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya confirmed that an agreement was reached, allowing Eiseb to settle his arrears through structured monthly payments. Under the arrangement, he will pay N$1,500 per month while keeping up with his ongoing utility bills.
This resolution comes after public concern and discussions surrounding the impact of power disconnections on vulnerable individuals who rely on essential medical equipment.
