Eight-year-old boy killed in tragic road accident near Okahandja

An eight-year-old boy was killed in a tragic road accident on Sunday along the D2102 Ovitoto Road outside Okahandja, prompting police to launch an investigation into the incident.
Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson and community liaison officer Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha said the child, identified as Hiliyepo Albertus Metusal, died at the scene after he was allegedly struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.
According to preliminary police findings, the boy had been collecting firewood with his family. While returning, he reportedly attempted to cross the road towards the Five Rand location when the collision occurred.
The vehicle involved was driven by a 56-year-old man who tested negative for alcohol. Police confirmed that the driver holds a valid driver’s licence and has not been taken into custody.
Senior Inspector Mbeha said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
