State opposes bail for Onandjokwe doctor accused of sexual assault
A medical doctor employed at Onandjokwe Hospital will remain in custody after the State opposed his release on bail when he appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of alleged sexual assault.
The accused, Dennis Iipumbu Noa (31), made his first appearance before Magistrate Nelao ya France in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 26 year old man. The alleged incident is said to have taken place at Noa’s flat on the Onandjokwe Hospital premises over the weekend.
State prosecutor Aina Magano Mwaala argued against bail, telling the court that the prosecution has a strong case and that releasing the accused at this stage could compromise the investigation. She said there were concerns that Noa could interfere with witnesses or evade trial if granted bail.
Defence lawyer Allan Homela requested that his client be released, arguing that Noa is a medical doctor whose services are required at the hospital.
After hearing submissions from both sides, Magistrate ya France postponed the matter to 27 October 2026 for a formal bail application.
The case was further remanded to 29 October 2026 to allow police to complete outstanding investigations.The State indicated that several aspects of the investigation are still underway.
Noa remains in custody pending his bail application.
The accused has not yet pleaded to the charge, and the allegations against him remain before the court.
