Philip Haoseb Writes His Name in Namibia’s Commonwealth Games Story

Philip Pumulo Haoseb has secured a bronze medal for Namibia in the men’s 55kg boxing division at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after his campaign came to an end in the semi-finals.
Haoseb’s impressive run was halted by a narrow points defeat to India’s J.S. Mandengbam in a closely contested semi-final bout. Despite falling short of reaching the final, the Namibian boxer produced a determined display throughout the competition to earn a place on the podium.
The bronze medal marks Namibia’s first medal at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and continues the country’s strong boxing tradition on the Commonwealth stage, following Jonas Junias’ gold medal achievement at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Namibia is guaranteed two more medals after semi-final appearances by Mischa Araes in the women’s 51kg division and Tryagain Ndevelo in the men’s 60kg category.
Araes and Ndevelo are scheduled to step into the ring at 20:15 and 21:45 Namibian time respectively, with both boxers aiming to secure victories that would upgrade their guaranteed bronze medals to at least silver.
