Fury And Joshua Confirmed For December Heavyweight Showdown In Cardiff
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will finally meet in the ring after their long-awaited heavyweight showdown was officially confirmed for 11 December at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
The all-British clash will be streamed live globally on Netflix, bringing together two former heavyweight world champions who have been linked with a fight for more than a decade.
According to BBC Sport, organisers are considering a late start time to accommodate viewers in the United States. The exact ring-walk and main-event time has not yet been confirmed.
Joshua and Fury are scheduled to appear together at a press conference in London on 30 September, officially beginning the promotional build-up to the fight.
The event is being promoted through a collaboration involving Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and UFC president Dana White.
Alalshikh described the contest as a meeting between two of the leading heavyweights of their generation and said he was pleased to finally make the fight happen.
Both fighters had previously agreed contracts for the bout, but disagreements over the venue and other arrangements delayed the official confirmation. Cardiff eventually emerged as the chosen location after other venues were considered.
The Principality Stadium has experience hosting major boxing events, including Joe Calzaghe’s 2007 victory over Mikkel Kessler. The venue has also staged other major sporting events under late-night schedules designed around international television audiences.
Joshua had previously expressed a preference for the fight to take place in the United Kingdom, and the Cardiff agreement means the contest will take place on British soil.
The fight will mark the first professional meeting between Joshua and Fury. Their rivalry has developed through years of negotiations, proposed dates and failed attempts to reach the ring.
Netflix confirmed that the event will be available live to its members worldwide at no additional cost. The full undercard is expected to be announced at a later date.
After years of uncertainty, the heavyweight showdown now has both a date and a venue: Joshua vs Fury, Cardiff, 11 December.
