Pius “Bilo” Sapopi, a 20-year-old player from Leo United Football Academy in Kavango West, has progressed to the next stage of an international football scouting initiative after impressing during trials held in Rundu last weekend.

Sapopi was among the players selected during nationwide trials organised by Greener World Soccer Links, Academy and Agency in partnership with Pro-Soccer Scouts Netherlands.

His selection earns him a place in a three-day video profiling programme scheduled for Windhoek next month. The programme will involve recording individual player highlights and compiling profiles intended to present selected footballers to a wider international audience.

The initiative is designed to increase players’ visibility among overseas clubs, scouts and football academies, potentially opening doors to international trials and professional opportunities.

Sapopi currently belongs to Leo United Football Academy, based at Mukekete in the Tondoro Constituency of the Kavango West Region.

He spent the 2025/2026 season on loan at Young Western Fighters, helping the club win the Kavango West Second Division League title. Following the end of his loan spell, he returned to Leo United, which has since secured promotion to the Kavango West River Stream Third Division.

Leo United chairman Stefanus Nambara said the academy was pleased with Sapopi’s progress, particularly after investing in his participation in the Rundu trials.

The academy has also indicated that it would consider opportunities for the young footballer to attend trials with Second Division clubs and teams competing in higher leagues, despite his return to Leo United.

However, his next step comes with a financial challenge. The academy needs to raise N$2,000 towards the production of his player highlight videos in Windhoek.

The organisers will cover the remaining costs, including accommodation and transport from accomodation to Stadium.

Leo United is appealing to individuals and potential supporters to contribute towards the required amount so that Sapopi can participate in the next phase of the programme.

For the young footballer, the upcoming video profiling exercise represents another opportunity to put his abilities before scouts and clubs that could offer a pathway into professional football.
