The Alligator to Defend Title in Front of Home Fans as Rundu set to Host Boxing Spectacle Featuring Harry Simon, Nakathila, and More
Rundu is gearing up to host one of the biggest boxing events in its history when hometown champion Martin “Alligator” Mukungu returns to defend his WBO Africa lightweight title on 17 October in a star-studded boxing tournament.
The event, organised by the MTC Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy in partnership with the Kavango East Regional Council, will feature several of Namibia’s top professional boxers, with multiple international titles on the line.
Speaking about the upcoming tournament, promoter Nestor Tobias described the occasion as a landmark event for the Kavango East Region, saying it celebrates the achievements of the region’s first and only international boxing champion. He added that bringing the event to Rundu is intended to inspire young people to pursue their dreams and believe they can reach the highest levels of the sport.
Mukungu enters the title defence with an impressive professional record of 14 victories, including eight knockouts, against just two defeats. He will face South Africa’s Lucky Manyebane, who boasts a record of 13 wins, six of them by knockout, and four losses.
Mukungu’s lastest fight came in May when dethroning previously unbeaten champion Flame Nangolo to become the new WBO Africa junior lightweight champion.
The undercard will also feature two more Namibian international champions defending their belts. Filipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa will put his WBO Global super bantamweight title on the line against Tanzania’s unbeaten Jumanne Iddi Jumanne, who has won all 12 of his professional fights, with six coming by knockout.
Another title defence will see Mateus “The Beast” Heita stepping into the ring, adding further excitement to what promises to be a memorable night of boxing.
Fans can also look forward to seeing several of Namibia’s biggest boxing names in action, including Harry Simon Junior, Jeremiah “Lowkey” Nakathila and Paulinus “Jon Jon” Ndjolonimus. Their opponents are expected to be announced at a later stage.
Tickets for the event will be available at N$100 per person, while a wine-and-dine table accommodating 10 guests will cost N$20,000. Additional information is available through the MTC Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy.
