Chinese Businessman Enstooled as Chief and Given Traditional Name in Ghana
A Chinese businessman has been enstooled as a traditional chief in Ghana following a ceremony held in the Greater Accra Region.
Zheng Xiangming, Chairman of Greenhouse International Development Group Ghana Limited, was enstooled as a development chief at the Bright International Industrial Park in Afienya on August 28, 2026.
He was given the traditional name Hiowe Golaka Noryam Matse Nene Asumahtsu I.
Zheng has been doing business in Ghana since 2011, with investments in manufacturing, agriculture, construction and tourism.
His company also developed the Bright International Industrial Park, which has several factories and provides jobs to thousands of people.
His appointment as a chief has attracted attention because he is a Chinese national. Many people have expressed surprise at seeing a foreign businessman receive a traditional chieftaincy title.
In Ghana, people can be given traditional titles to recognise their contributions to communities and development.
