Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic Dead at 22

The Austrian pageant community is mourning the sudden death of Lucia Sisic, who passed away at the age of 22 while still holding the Miss Austria title.
Sisic was crowned Miss Austria in 2024 after first winning the Miss Vienna title earlier that year. She remained the reigning national titleholder because no new Miss Austria competition was held in 2025 or 2026.
Mission Austria, the organisation behind the Miss and Mister Austria competitions, confirmed her death in a statement, describing Sisic as a “wonderful young woman” and extending condolences to her family, friends and those close to her.

Sisic had lived with a congenital heart valve defect since birth and underwent several major heart operations throughout her life. Austrian media reports say she had undergone seven procedures, with her most recent operation taking place during the winter.
Despite her long medical history, Sisic remained active publicly and often spoke about her experiences in a way that encouraged others facing serious health challenges. She had previously thanked medical specialists for helping her overcome difficult periods and live what she described as a fulfilling life.
The exact cause of her death has not been officially disclosed, and reports have not established that her congenital heart condition was directly responsible for her passing.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from the Austrian pageant community. Christopher Dengg, who held the Mister Austria title alongside Sisic in 2024, said he was deeply shocked by her death and remembered her as being like a sister to him.
