Durban City Officially Appoint Eric Tinkler as New Head Coach

Durban City FC have officially appointed former Bafana Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation over the club’s next manager.
Tinkler returns to South African football after a brief spell with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, where he spent just four league matches in charge before leaving the club.
The 56-year-old replaces Khalil Ben Youssef and takes charge of Durban City as the club prepares to resume domestic action while continuing its CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Tinkler, who was part of South Africa’s 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, has previously coached Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United.
Speaking after his appointment, Tinkler said Durban City’s ambition and progress were key factors behind his decision to join the club.
“I’m excited to be part of what is being built here at Durban City FC. The club is very ambitious, they have made positive strides in a short space of time, competing in the CAF Confederation Cup already, and that made my decision easy.”
Tinkler also has a previous working relationship with Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia from their time at Maritzburg United. He said that relationship also played a role in his decision to return to KwaZulu-Natal.
His immediate targets include guiding Durban City to a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership, making progress in the CAF Confederation Cup and competing for the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup.
Tinkler will make his first appearance on the touchline on 13 October when Durban City face AmaZulu in a KZN derby at Chatsworth Stadium.
