Ugandan security forces have arrested a man accused of killing and eating 38 people over a period of 15 years, according to the country’s military chief.

The suspect, identified as Moses Mujurizi, is alleged to have committed the killings between 2010 and 2025 in the districts of Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo in Uganda.

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced the arrest on Monday, 26 October 2026, in a post on social media platform X. He accused Mujurizi of being responsible for the deaths and alleged cannibalism.

According to reports by Uganda’s Daily Monitor and other media outlets, the case is linked to a long history of violent killings in parts of the country, particularly in the Greater Masaka region.

Investigators have described a pattern of attacks in which victims were allegedly killed inside their homes. Some earlier reports also linked suspected attackers to the deaths of several members of the same families.

The case has attracted renewed attention as authorities investigate whether earlier unsolved killings may be connected to the allegations against the suspect.

General Kainerugaba said the suspect would face a public trial. However, the allegations against Mujurizi have yet to be established in court, and further details about the evidence supporting the claim that 38 people were killed and eaten remain limited in the available reports.

The arrest announcement has also revived questions about earlier investigations into killings in the region and how suspects previously linked to such cases were able to evade detention.
