American singer and performer Chris Brown was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning at a luxury hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester. The arrest is connected to a serious assault investigation dating back to 2023.
Brown, 36, was taken into police custody at approximately 2:00 a.m. at the five-star Lowry Hotel, shortly after arriving in the United Kingdom for his planned concert tour. According to the Metropolitan Police, he is being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in relation to an incident that allegedly occurred on February 19, 2023.
The accusation stems from an altercation at Tape nightclub, a popular venue in London’s Mayfair district. Brown is alleged to have launched a violent and unprovoked attack on music producer Abe Diaw. Reports claim Brown struck Diaw multiple times with a bottle before continuing the assault with punches and kicks while Diaw was on the ground.
Diaw has since come forward publicly, stating the assault left him with severe injuries that required the use of crutches during recovery. He has also filed a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million in damages for the physical and emotional harm allegedly caused by the incident.
In a statement released Thursday, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 0200hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023.”
At present, Brown remains in custody as the investigation continues. Further details are expected to emerge as legal proceedings develop.
