One person lost their life in a tragic head-on collision that occurred near Kalkfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region on Thursday night.
According to police reports, the accident happened at around 21:45 along the C33 route, approximately four kilometres before Kalkfeld. A Hyundai SUV, driven by a 40-year-old Zimbabwean man from Otjiwarongo, collided with a Toyota Hilux double cab that was heading towards Kalkfeld.
Preliminary findings suggest that the Hilux swerved to avoid another vehicle driving without rear lights, resulting in a head-on crash with the oncoming Hyundai. Both vehicles left the road and crashed into the same direction.
The driver of the Hyundai died at the scene. His passengers—a 41-year-old woman and two children aged 11 and 5, also from Zimbabwe—suffered serious injuries.
Four people in the Hilux, including a 53-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman, and two children aged 14 and 10, were also injured. All injured persons were rushed to Otjiwarongo Hospital for medical care.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
