A 25-year-old man lost his life in a workplace accident at the Ramatex – The Updated World premises in Otjomuise on Wednesday, after a structure they were dismantling gave way.
The deceased, identified as Pius Petrus, was reportedly working alongside two other men when a heavy beam unexpectedly gave in and struck him. According to the Namibian Police, Petrus died on the spot due to the impact.
The group had been dismantling parts of a wall structure when the tragic incident occurred. One of the workers sustained injuries to his right foot and was taken for medical attention, while the third individual managed to escape without any physical harm.
Authorities have confirmed that Petrus’ family has been notified, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
The incident has once again raised concerns about safety measures at construction and demolition sites, especially as activity increases around repurposing the long-abandoned Ramatex facility.
