The National Assembly session descended into chaos after AR parliamentarian Tuhafeni Kalola was forcibly removed, sustaining injuries that required hospitalisation. Kalola later confirmed that he received medical attention following the incident.
The clash started when Speaker Dr Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila ordered Kalola to return to his seat, citing defiance of house rules. Kalola’s refusal prompted security personnel to intervene, escalating tensions within the chamber.
AR leader Job Amupanda attempted to defend his colleague but was also forcefully removed by security officials. Video footage of the incident shows Amupanda’s t-shirt torn during the altercation.
Amupanda later stated that the Speaker’s actions were influenced by frustration over a recent AR press conference, which he claims exposed the alleged inefficiency of both Parliament and its leadership.
