A dramatic police chase through Dorado Park on Saturday afternoon ended in gunfire after suspects opened fire on law enforcement officers.
According to police reports, officers were tipped off about a suspicious metallic blue Honda Fit parked along Hendrick Witbooi Drive. When they moved in to investigate, the vehicle sped away, leading to a high-speed chase along Moses Garoeb Street.
The car eventually came to a halt, and five men, including the driver, jumped out and fled in different directions. Two of the suspects ran into a nearby riverbed, where they allegedly shot at the officers. Police returned fire, injuring a 25-year-old Namibian man who was hit in the back. He was rushed to Katutura Hospital and is currently under medical care.
Inside the abandoned vehicle, police discovered several items, including a screwdriver, a Hisense cellphone, an iPhone, two Samsung phones, a C-type charger, a cap, and a brown cosmetic bag.
The other suspects managed to escape and are still on the run. Police say investigations are ongoing and have called on the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest.
