A 75-year-old woman from Omatangala village in the Ohangwena region was raped and robbed of N$2,100 by her 21-year-old neighbour in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Ohangwena police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Foibe Petrus, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred around 02:00 at the victim’s home while she was asleep.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly entered the pensioner’s room and threatened to kill her before sexually assaulting her and stealing her money.

The suspect was later arrested and is expected to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court today.

Police have strongly condemned the crime, describing it as a cruel and shocking act against a vulnerable member of society.
