Police in the Zambezi Region are investigating a suspected case of domestic violence that led to the death of a 29-year-old woman in Mwemba village, Mafuta area.
According to authorities, the woman was allegedly assaulted by her 30-year-old husband after confronting him about being involved with another woman. Neighbours reportedly heard the victim’s screams before the couple returned home.
She was later discovered lying on a mattress, bleeding from the nostrils but with no other visible injuries. Her body has been taken to the Katima Mulilo State Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The suspect, also a Zambian national, allegedly phoned his employer around 05h00 after realising his wife was no longer breathing. Police arrested him at the scene shortly afterwards.
Regional police confirmed that the next of kin have been notified. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
