A tragic road accident on Wednesday evening claimed the life of Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) freelance sign language interpreter, Peter Mbwale, leaving several others injured.
The crash occurred around 19:35 on the C35 road between Werda and Omakange, near Oviyombo village, according to NamPol Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga.
Police reports indicate that Mbwale was travelling from Windhoek to Ruacana when his vehicle struck a cow that was crossing the road. The impact caused him to lose control and collide head-on with an oncoming car belonging to the Kamanjab Constituency Council.
Mbwale died instantly, while his wife sustained critical injuries and is currently being treated at Opuwo State Hospital.
There were ten passengers in Mbwale’s vehicle at the time of the accident. Several were seriously hurt and rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The two occupants of the government vehicle, a male driver and a female passenger, also suffered severe injuries.
The deceased’s body has been transported to the Opuwo police mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
