Inmate Dies After Sudden Collapse in Rundu Police Custody

A 37-year-old male inmate has died after being rushed to Intermediate Hospital Rundu in the early hours of Monday, with medical personnel confirming his death upon arrival.
According to a police report issued by Deputy Commissioner Kanyetu, the detainee reportedly began vomiting before collapsing while in custody at the Rundu police station. He was transported to the hospital in an unconscious condition but could not be revived.
Authorities indicated that the deceased had been held in connection with a domestic violence-related case, specifically assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and had been denied bail.
It is further understood that the inmate was suspected to be suffering from a psychotic disorder, although a formal mental health assessment had not yet been conducted at the time of his death.
Police have withheld the identity of the deceased as his next of kin have not yet been notified.
