OneAfrica Journalist Reported Missing After Sending Distress Message to her message

Police have launched a search for OneAfrica journalist Maria Hamukwaya, who was reported missing after sending a distress message on Thursday, 30 January, indicating that she felt unsafe while travelling in a taxi.
According to information released, Hamukwaya alerted manager that she was in a red Mazda Demio, bearing registration F110. However, police later confirmed that the registration number does not match the vehicle on record in the City Police system, raising serious concerns about her safety.
Shortly after sending the message, Hamukwaya’s phone was switched off, and all attempts to reach her have since been unsuccessful. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
The matter has been formally reported to the police, who have confirmed that investigations are underway and efforts are being made to locate her.
