Wife Faces Murder Charge in Gruesome Killing of Police Officer in Otjiwarongo

A wife has been arrested in Grootfontein following a major breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of a police officer.
The suspect, Anelda Shigwedha, who is the wife of the deceased, was taken into custody on 9 April after months of investigations into the death of her husband, Sergeant Thomas Shigwedha. Her arrest follows key developments, including CCTV footage released earlier this year showing the officer in the company of an unidentified woman shortly before his death.
Sergeant Shigwedha, who was stationed at Okakarara Police Station, was found dead in June last year in a bushy area near Dr Nicky Iyambo Street. Police reported that he sustained two stab wounds to the back of the head, and his face had been severely smashed with a rock.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled, prompting an extensive investigation by law enforcement.
Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson and community liaison officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, confirmed that the investigation eventually led to the arrest of the wife.
Anelda Shigwedha has since appeared in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court, where she faces a charge of murder, read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act. She was denied bail and remains in custody as investigations continue.
