The start of the 2026/2027 North West Stream First Division season is facing uncertainty, with participating clubs reportedly unwilling to begin the campaign until outstanding prize money from the previous season is paid and clarity is provided on the league’s starting capital.

Information received by The Updated World indicates that clubs took a position during a meeting on Monday, 2 November 2026, that the league should not commence this weekend unless the outstanding prize money is deposited into the accounts of deserving clubs by Wednesday.

According to sources within the league, the clubs maintain that receiving starting capital from Namport alone will not be enough to resolve their concerns, as they also want the Namibia Football Association (NFA) to settle the outstanding prize money before the new season begins.

The situation could also create challenges for the league’s sponsorship arrangements, particularly following Namport’s announcement that all streams are expected to commence their respective competitions.

Meanwhile, the North West Stream First Division Executive Committee (EXCO) has raised several concerns with the relevant association, requesting clarification on issues it considers important ahead of the new season.

Among the key matters raised is the outstanding prize money, with the Executive Committee seeking confirmation of the exact date on which the payments will be made to the deserving clubs.

The committee has also requested a breakdown of the outstanding funds owed to the North West First Division, including the total amount due and when the payments are expected to be settled.

Regarding the 2026/2027 season, the EXCO is seeking clarity on the total funding allocated to the stream and how the money will be distributed to support league operations.

The welfare and remuneration of referees have also been highlighted, with the committee asking the association to explain how match officials will be catered for, including their payments, allowances and other related expenses during the upcoming campaign.

Speaking to The Updated World, the EXCO expressed disappointment over the lack of response to the concerns raised, saying its requests to the association had seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

With the new season expected to begin this weekend, uncertainty over the outstanding payments and starting capital could delay the competition if the concerns are not addressed in time.
