Liverpool were denied their first Premier League victory of the season after Nottingham Forest produced a determined performance to hold the Reds to a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday.

The visitors showed little fear in front of the home crowd and took the lead in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye finished well to put Forest ahead. Liverpool struggled to find a way through before the interval and went into half-time trailing 1-0.

The Reds returned from the break with greater attacking intent and were rewarded in the 60th minute. Alexander Isak met Cody Gakpo’s delivery and finished from close range to bring Liverpool level and open his Premier League account for the season.

Forest, however, quickly regained the advantage. Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was penalised, putting the visitors 2-1 ahead.

With Liverpool facing another disappointing result at home, Víctor Muñoz stepped forward with a moment of individual brilliance. The Spanish forward unleashed a powerful effort in the 82nd minute, with Florian Wirtz providing the assist, to make it 2-2.

Liverpool pushed strongly for a late winner, but Forest remained organised and held on for a valuable point.

The draw leaves Liverpool with two consecutive 2-2 draws to begin the Premier League campaign under new head coach Andoni Iraola. For Forest, the result represents their first point of the season and a strong away performance against one of the league’s biggest clubs.

Muñoz’s late equaliser was particularly significant as he marked his first Premier League start for Liverpool with a goal, while Isak’s return to the scoresheet gives the Reds another positive to take from a match in which they twice had to fight back from behind.
