The Namibian Police in the Oshikoto Region have appealed to members of the public with missing relatives to contact the Onayena Police Station or visit Onandjokwe Hospital to help identify the victims of a devastating road accident that claimed nine lives at Oniimbwele village on Sunday evening.

According to Oshikoto Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Ndafudha Lifo, the accident involved an Iveco bus operated by Okambebe Transport and a tipper truck registered to Niimboto Construction cc.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the tipper truck, which was travelling from Onathinge towards Ondangwa, allegedly veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Iveco bus en route to Windhoek.

“All nine fatalities were passengers in the bus,” Commissioner Iifo confirmed. “Four of the deceased have been identified, but their names are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.” The remaining four victims are yet to be identified.

Among the deceased were the bus driver, two young girls, one man, and four women, aged between two and 52 years. The driver of the tipper truck, who was the sole occupant, survived the collision but sustained serious leg injuries and was admitted to Onandjokwe State Hospital.

All injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
