Only Two Out of 14 Volunteer Teachers Hired as Ndama East Recruitment Leaves Founders Disappointed

Only two volunteer teachers who helped establish teaching at Ndama East Primary School in Rundu four years ago have been appointed to permanent positions, leaving the majority of the original group disappointed after the recent recruitment process.
A total of fourteen volunteer teachers had been teaching at the school since its early stages, but when permanent teaching posts were advertised in December last year, only two of them were successful. The remaining volunteers say the outcome has left them feeling overlooked despite their contribution to building the school from the beginning.
The concerned teachers, together with parents and community members, held a meeting at Ndama on Tuesday to express frustration over the way the recruitment was handled. They believe those who started teaching at the school during its early development should have been given stronger consideration when permanent posts became available.
Former school principal Asser Ndara said it was painful to see people who worked hard to grow the school being left out. He called on the government to review the matter, saying the situation was difficult to understand for those who sacrificed their time to support the school when it had limited resources.
One of the volunteer teachers, Jenita Singangu, also described the outcome as unfair, saying the group feels betrayed after years of commitment. She appealed to national leaders to look into the issue and find a solution that recognises the efforts of the volunteer teachers who helped keep the school running.
Kavango East education director Christine Shilima explained that the ministry followed the official recruitment policy when filling the vacancies. According to her, once positions are advertised, they must be open to all qualified applicants to ensure transparency and fairness in the hiring process.
She added that the directorate has submitted a separate request to the executive director regarding the volunteer teachers from Ndama East. If approved, the teachers may still be considered through a different process, but such appointments cannot be made outside the rules when posts are filled through public advertisement.
