President Appoints Modestus Amutse as New Industries, Mines and Energy Minister

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has named Modestus Amutse as the new minister of industries, mines and energy, ending months of interim leadership at the ministry. His appointment took effect on 2 December.
The portfolio had been overseen in an acting capacity by defence minister Frans Kapofi after former minister Natangwe Ithete was dismissed in October. The president extended her appreciation to Kapofi for managing the ministry during the transitional period.
State House said Amutse’s background places him in a strong position to take up the post. He previously served as deputy minister of information and communication technology, was a member of parliament, chaired a standing committee of the National Assembly and held several leadership roles at regional level.
The Presidency noted that the appointment was made in accordance with Article 35 of the Namibian Constitution, which empowers the head of state to appoint ministers to the executive.
Amutse is expected to assume full responsibility for the ministry immediately as government pushes ahead with its industrial, mining and energy agenda.
